FOUNDATIONS
Raoul’s passion and involvement with motorsport came from a young age, specifically when he was just 8 years old. He first started competing on an amateur level in the United Kingdom where he would race every month at indoor karting events in London. This formed as the foundations for his career in motorsport for years to come.
Raoul then moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 2005 at the age of 10, which is when his competitive involvement in motorsport began to evolve. His parents bought him his own go-kart so that he could refine his skills and learn the fundamentals of racing. This would then allow him to compete at a higher level and progress through the local ranks as a driver, eventually transitioning to competing in Europe as well.
EARLY SUCCESS
Raoul’s competitive karting career kicked off with strong results within the local karting scene in Cape Town, South Africa. This was immediately followed by entries into national competitions where strong results were achieved as well. In 2009, Raoul qualified to represent Team South Africa at the Rotax World Finals in the Junior Max category, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
After achieving this success in local, national and international competition within the world of karting, Raoul made the transition into single seater racing in 2011 through the Formula Renault 2.0 BARC series in the United Kingdom. This symbolised a large stepping stone that would progress his career onto the more mature ranks for the following years.
