The Driver

Raoul Owens is a British racing driver with single-seater experience in prestigious series across Europe and North America.

Having raced in single-seaters for five years between 2011 and 2015, Raoul's career is on a direct trajectory towards the FIA World Endurance Championship [WEC] via a 2016 season in Renault Sport Trophy [RS01] – the leading series for single-seater drivers transitioning to LMP and/or GT racing.

In 2015, Raoul faced his biggest career challenge to date, as he moved to the United States to compete in the Pro Mazda Championship. Despite being a debutant on every circuit on the calendar, Raoul set new lap records and was a regular winner of top accolades such as the Quarter Master Hard Charger Award and RePlay XD Move of the Race. These were well-deserved honours for Raoul's strong display of overtaking brilliance throughout the season.

Ultimately, Raoul decided at the end of his Pro Mazda season that he would be more suited to LMP racing over open-wheel racing on the wide variety of ovals, street circuits and road courses in North America. Returning to his previous European training ground, Raoul took part in his first RS01 test in October 2015 at the Circuito de Jerez and was just +0.4s off the pace of Renault Sport's very own promo driver and former F1 driver, Giedo Van De Garde.

Beyond his talents as a professional racing driver, Raoul is an avid video gamer and is currently consulting for a blue-chip video gaming company. He is keen to share and implement his experiences as a driver into the virtual gaming world in order to create more realistic and immersive gameplay for racing fans. In Raoul's own words: "If I wasn’t a racing driver, I would definitely be involved in creating video games."
